Somatic and Body-Centered Therapies

Somatic and body-centered therapies help you learn how to re-negotiate maladaptive nervous system responses developed from a variety of events. It can be an empowering process to learn to navigate tension, anger, irritation, and other emotions that remain in your body as a result of adult patterns of thought, trauma wounding, and coping behaviors. The goal is to assist you in overcoming the tension and suffering that keeps you from fully participating in life.

Additional physical methods may be suggested such as Somatic Experiencing™, chiropractic care, yoga, exercise, or other types of movement combined with verbal therapy. Somatic therapy works in both individual and group settings. It’s helpful for people struggling with stress, anxiety, PTSD, depression, grief, addiction, relationship problems, and sexual dysfunction. The length of treatment varies from person to person.

Relational & Trauma Healing

Caritas founder and resident Imago relational therapist, Karen Olson, teaches practical techniques to improve communication and facilitate deeper understanding and compassion in relationships. She does this via individual sessions and weekend workshops to help couples to experience conscious love and growth–healing old wounds in the process.

Her intention is to provide a safe, supportive environment so that clients can tapping into their own inner wisdom and create the change they want in their lives. She supports people in nurturing all aspects of their health–psychological, emotional, spiritual, and physical–and understands that these are delicately interwoven. In addition to working with couples, she provides counseling to individuals, utilizing EMDR therapy when appropriate.

Chinese & Functional Medicine

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is one of the oldest continuous systems of medicine in history, with recorded instances dating as far back as 2000 years BC. This time-tested treatment is based on viewing the body as an interconnected, energetic system, with parts working together to keep the body functioning as a whole.

A Functional medicine Matrix assists the clinician in organizing and prioritizing each patient’s health issues as elicited by a thorough personal, family, social, and medical history. It issues into a complete story to help the clinician gain a comprehensive perspective of the patient and subsequently facilitate discussion of complex or chronic disease with the patient. Treatment from Caritas’ TCM practitioners may include Chinese herbal therapy, acupuncture, moxa, massage, Reiki, CranioSacral, counseling in nutrition and exercise, and more.
